Joshua was Moses’ assistant and one of the 12 spies sent into the promised land to bring back a report of what they saw. Joshua and Caleb were only two spies out of the 12 who believed they could take the land, at that time, because they believed the promise that God had made to them and to their ancestors. 40 years later Joshua and people of Israel are finally getting ready to take the promised land, and Joshua reminds the people that they have nothing to fear because the Lord their God is with them. Let the words of Joshua serve as a reminder to us today as well. God is the source of our strength and courage. The writer of Hebrews put it this way: “Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 CSB). Remember today that your source of strength and courage comes not from your physical abilities, but from God and fixing your eyes on him and him alone.
