We as followers of Christ have a tendency to back off from our beliefs when things get to be too rough. This is especially true in today’s world where it seems that we have become more concerned with fitting in rather than making a difference no matter the cost. In the world’s eyes you suffer because you have done something wrong or bad or evil. However, this is not always the case. Yes your actions do have consequences. This is not what Peter is talking about here. What Peter is talking about here in this verse is the suffering that you go through as a follower of Christ is an attempt by the devil to derail you and to prevent you from fulfilling your God given mission. As followers of Christ we have the mistaken idea that our suffering is over and that bad things will never happen to us. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The closer your walk with God the harder the devil is going to try and drive a wedge between you God, because the devil knows that once your a follower of Christ he can’t have your soul but he can prevent you from living your life to the fullest and fulfilling your God given purpose. Always remember this: the darkest hour means dawn is just in sight.
