God is with you on the mountain tops in your life and he is with you in the valleys of your life. Davis knew and understood this. That is why he was able to write words such as “Even though I walk through this darkest valley, I will fear no evil for you are with me”. Davis had periods in his life when he was on the mountain top and everyone could see that God was with him, times such as his extraordinary defeat of Goliath. But just like everybody else these periods on the mountain top were followed by periods in the valley. Periods where it seemed that everyone was against him, including God. However, David’s faith never wavered and he always believed that God was right there with him even in the darkest most desperate times of his life. You can see this throughout the Psalms, many of which were written by David not while he was on the mountain top but while he was deep in the valley. He calls God his rock and his fortress, and his ever present help in time of trouble. Davis knew that he couldn’t get through the valley alone. David knew that God was right there with him even in his darkest most desperate times. It is very easy for you to see that God is with you on the mountain top, because everything is going good and there seem to be no problems. However, the true test of faith comes in the valley. When everything seems to be going wrong in your life are you going to continue to knew and believe that God is still with you, comforting and supporting you. Or are you going to choose to say abandoned me and so I’m going to abandon God. The choice is yours, but remember every choice has consequences.
