Alive: 47 Days of Lent, Day 16

Alive: What makes your soul sing?

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters

Colossians 3:23 NIV

In my experience, Christians can get a little too obsessed over the idea of their “calling.” We can drive ourselves to distraction by constantly wondering what God’s purpose is for our lives.

Perhaps there is another, more helpful question you can ask yourself: what makes your soul sing?

The dreams, ideas, and passions that we have are there for a reason. The things that move us most, the things that make us come alive – these are imprints of God. When we go after whatever it is that moves us most, we’ll probably find that God is already there, waiting for us.

Society is often trying to tell us to do this or do that, be this or be that. But if we listen, perhaps we might hear God saying, “You are my child, so be yourself.”

Lord,

Thank you for the passions you have given me, for the dreams you have placed in my heart. Give me opportunities to match my everyday life with the longings of my soul. Amen.
