Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.-Hebrews 12:14
What does the writer the writer of Hebrews mean when he says to make every effort to live in peace with everyone? Does he mean that we should be doormats and allow everyone to walk all over us. No, but what he does mean is that we should not be actively looking to start conflicts. Jesus said “blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9). We as followers of Christ have been called to be peacemakers in this world. We have been called not to avoid conflict, but rather to act as agents of change in this world. Conflict is unavoidable in this world, but as peacemakers you can choose to pick your battles and show the world that the way to peace is through love. Not romantic love, but a love that says yes we may have a difference opinion above something but that’s not going to cause us to have all out war over petty things. If you want to live in peace with everyone, then start with this love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
