But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said.-John 14:26
Jesus promised to never leave us or forsake us. The day you accepted Christ as your Savior the Holy Spirit came to dwell within you and he immediately began to work on your heart changing you for the better. Jesus choice of words to describe the Holy Spirit are interesting. The word Jesus used in Greek literally means the one who stands with you or beside you. The translators of the King James Version translated that word as comforter. However, that word does not adequately describe the work of the Holy Spirit. Yes the Holy Spirit does provide you with comfort, but more importantly the Holy Spirit is the one who is fighting for and interceding for you even when you don’t know what to say or how to say it. Remember the words of Paul to the Romans, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God” (Romans 8:26-27 NIV).
