The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of salvation, my stronghold.-Psalm 18:2

Are you going through tough times? Then take comfort in these words written long ago by David. If you don’t know the story of King David then you will probably wonder why you should even pay attention to the words written by a king, who lived thousands of years ago and who ruled over a land thousands of miles away. David was chosen by God to be the next king of Israel after Saul, who was the first king of Israel. You have probably all heard the story of David and Goliath. It was after David’s defeat of Goliath that things really took a turn for the worse in David’s life. King Saul becomes jealous of David after his defeat of Goliath. In fact Saul becomes so jealous of David that he attempts to have him killed. This causes David to flee and to go in hiding. It is during this time of being on the run from Saul that David writes most of the Psalms that are recorded. Most of them have the same theme as the one recorded here. David is willing to put his trust in God, because he believes and knows that God is his deliverer, his fortress, his rock, his shield and his stronghold. Even if you think God is not there he is there right beside you. David knew that and you can know that, too. All you have to do is trust God.
