Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, they do not know what they are doing.” And thy divided up his clothes by casting lots.-Luke 23:34
Even as he was dying the most humiliating and painful death possible Jesus still chose to love his enemies and to pray for those who were persecuting him. He put into practice that which he preached. That was the main reason he was so disliked by the religious leaders of his day. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day talked a good game, but when it came time to put their words into action they fell short. Jesus, however, was and is different, because he not only talked a good game but he put into practice. We should follow his example and not hurl insults back at those who persecuting us, but we should instead show them love and to pray for them. “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith that can move mountains, but do have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”-1 Corinthians 13:1-3
