Verse of the Day 4-8-21

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve other, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.-1 Peter 4:10

Whether you believe it or not God has given you certain spiritual gifts. These gifts come in many shapes and forms and they all play a vital role in the functioning of God’s church. Paul wrote at length to the Corinthian church about the importance of spiritual gifts and the importance of ensuring that every member of the body of Christ understand their role and the importance of their role in fulfilling the overall mission of the Church.

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body-whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free-and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, ” Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If whole body were eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has place the parts of the body every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the fee, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think less honorable we treat special honor. And the parts that are are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one parts suffers, every part sufferers with it; if one part is honored every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And God has placed in the Church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.-1 Corinthians 12:12-31

Both Peter and Paul are making a call for unity within the Church. There is no place for fighting and bickering within the Church. We all have one mission and we all need to work together to fulfill that mission.
