Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.-James 1:2-3
Joy unlike happiness is a state of mind, while happiness is an emotion that can change from day to day. Why would James say that we should take delight in facing the trials that we will face in life. The trials that you face in your life are like the metallurgist’s refining fire. The refiner’s fire burns away all the impurities from the metal that they are refining leaving only the pure metal. This is what your trial’s do for you. They are God’s refining fire, which your faith in him is tested, so that your faith can be made stronger. That is why James can say “consider it pure joy”, because we all desire to have stronger faith and that desire is the source of our delight/joy.
