The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.-Matthew 23:11-12
The writer of Proverbs says that “pride goes before a fall”. Here Jesus is repeating this message. In fact if you look at the life’s of almost all of the great leaders, that are remembered and honored for being great, they all had one thing in common and that is that they put other’s ahead of themselves. They were willing to become “servants” and to humble themselves. This is the kind of leadership that Jesus demonstrated everyday that he walked the earth. It is often called servant leadership, because it is not about imposing your will on those whom you lead, but it is about humbly serving those whom you lead. If you want to be a great leader no matter where you are, then you need only follow the example of Jesus and become a servant leader.
