And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.-Matthew 6:5-6
Your prayer time should not be flashy or showy, or done to impress others. Prayer is your way of directly communicating to God and it is through prayer that you will receive guidance and direction from God. You should pray to God in the same way that you would have a conversation with your friends. You don’t make your conversations with your friends public affairs, so in the same way you shouldn’t make your conversation with God a public affair. Those who do are only after one thing: a pat on the back from others because of how “religious” they are. They have missed the entire point of prayer and have, therefore, received all the reward they will ever get from that kind of prayer.
