God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.-2 Corinthians 5:21

God’s plan from the sin committed by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden was to provide a way for us to be reconciled to him. That way is through through the atoning sacrifice of his Son Jesus on the cross. Jesus is the only person who ever lived that never committed a sin, but yet when he willing paid our sin debt he took on all of our sins past, present and future. Why would someone who lived a sinless life take on our sins and pay the sin debt that we owe? First we have to understand that the wages of sin is death. Your sin may not kill you physically, but it will lead to fate far worse than physical death and that is spiritual death. The second thing we need to understand is that there is no escaping the payment of your sin debt. Either you yourself have to pay the debt or someone else has to pay your debt. In the Old Testament sins were atoned for by offering animal sacrifices, but these animal sacrifices had one problem they had to be done continually. So when Jesus, the only person to never sin, died on the cross he became the perfect sacrifice thus taking on all our sins and paying our sin debt once and for all. Now we no longer have to make continual offerings of animals to achieve atonement for our sins, all we have to do accept Jesus’ payment of our sin debt by acknowledging him as our Lord and savior.
