These two verses definitively state what we, as followers of Jesus believe. We believe that there is one God and that the only way to get to God is through Jesus, which is what Paul meant when he said one mediator between God and mankind. We, also, believe that Jesus paid the debt that owed through his death on the cross. The imagery that Paul uses when he says “who gave himself as a ransom for all people” is that of someone being held captive and another person taking their place so that they can go free. That is exactly what happened on the cross. Jesus took your place so that you could be free from the burden sin.
