No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its fruit. People do not pick figs from thorn bushes, or grapes from briers. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.-Luke 6:43-45

Paul tells us in Ephesians that we are saved by grace through faith and that we can’t earn our salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). James (the brother of Jesus) tells us that faith without works or some type of action is dead (James 2:14-26). This is what Jesus was teaching here in today’s passage. When you come to accept Jesus as your Lord and savior by God’s grace through faith, something happens inside you. To use old fashioned words you become indwelled with the Holy Spirit. This what Jesus meant when he used all the different metaphors in today’s passage. If you have truly come to accept Jesus as your Lord and savior by God’s grace through faith, then it will be evidenced through your words and your deeds. So go out today and live like the changed people you have become. Don’t let your faith become a dead faith. Show the world the true meaning of being a follower of Christ.
