Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all things we are more than conquers through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.-Romans 8:35-39

Is there anything that can separate us from God’s love? That is the question the Paul poses to us in today’s passage. In his usual style he gives a long and eloquent answer to his own question. He gives this long list of all the things that cannot separate us from God’s love. The short answer to the question is there anything that can separate us from God’s love is nothing. God is like the father in the story of the prodigal son. Who was waiting and watching for his lost child to return and when that lost child returned he welcomes that child back with open loving arms. Don’t ever say that you have done too many bad things for God to love you and to welcome you back home with open arms. Remember this today: God loves you and there is nothing that you or anyone else can do that can prevent God from loving you.
