And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.-Colossians 3:17
Paul in this one verse in his letter to the Colossian church hits upon the purpose and the reason for work. And that purpose for your daily job, besides making money so that you can survive, is that your daily work is an act of worship towards God. If you are truly a follower of Jesus then everything you do on a daily basis should be done to help build his kingdom. Yes, it is true that there will be times when you slip and fall, but that is only your human nature taking over, but the Holy Spirit living inside of you is going to convict you of working for your own glory and being prideful and he will help guide you back on to the right path if you will let him. Now that we have gotten that our of the way. Let’s go back and spend some more time the true heart of this verse. The true heart of this verse is that every follower of Jesus has been called into ministry. This does not mean that every follower of Jesus has been called to be a Pastor or a member of the clergy, but what it does mean is that you as follower of Jesus have been called to be God’s representative here on earth. This means whatever your vocation is that is where you have been called to be God’s representative. And until those of us who are followers of Jesus come to realize and understand this we will never be the world changers that we have been called to be.
