That there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. Why is Paul so concerned with unity within the body of Christ? And why should we be so concerned with unity? Jesus gave us the answer to these all important questions when he gave a response to the religious leaders of his day thinking that it was by the power of the devil that he was doing all his miracles, and this what Jesus said: “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divide against itself will not stand.”(Matthew 12:25 NIV). When we allow disunity to creep into the Church, and I don’t just mean your local body of believers but the corporate body of builders that exists worldwide, then we give the devil a foothold. This is because the devil knows that he can’t separate us for God, but he knows that he can separate us for each other, and his ultimate goal is to drive a wedge between fellow believers so that he can prevent the corporate body of Christ from fulfilling its overall mission. When we as followers of Christ stand you united with each other, then there is nothing that we cannot do. That is why in Ephesians Paul tells us to take up the shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16). Shield Paul is describing is the Roman shield that could be interlocked together with the other shields of the legion and when this happened it formed a wall that was unbreakable. If you are a follower of Christ, then you are a part of corporate body of Christ and it is time that we stand united against the power of the devil by taking up our shields of faith.
