Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.-Acts 3:19
Peter spoke these words in response to crowd of astonished on lookers after he and John had healed a lame beggar who was sitting outside the temple gate in Jerusalem. Peter was giving this crowd of on lookers who had just witnessed this great miracle the formula for the forgiveness of sins. He said first they had to repent. Repent means to turn away from an old way of doing things or an old way of living and turn to a way of doing things or living without going back to the old way. The last step is the important step and that is turning to God. Repentance means absolutely nothing if you don’t include God in the equation. That is why Peter gave them to big consequences for repenting and turning to God. The first is that your sins are wiped out and the second is that you will be refreshed by God. We all want our sins to be wiped out and to be refreshed by God, but very few are willing to take the necessary steps required for those things to happen. If your are looking for your sins to be wiped out and refreshing to come to your life, then turn away from your old way of living and turn to God.
