Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”-Exodus 14:13-14

To understand the context of these verses you need to understand what has happened before them. God had literally just struck down all the first born males in Egypt, but he spared the first born males of the people of Israel because they had followed his instructions. This causes Pharaoh to finally let the people of Israel go, but at the last minute he has change of heart and decides he doesn’t want all this free labor to leave and he chases after them. Meanwhile the people of Israel have reached the shores of the “Red Sea” (not actually the modern day body of water bearing that name) and they see Pharaoh and his vast army approaching to come and take them back into captivity and they began to grumble and complain to Moses. This where Moses delivers this little speech to the people of Israel to remind them of all the things that God has already done for them and of all the things God will do for them, if they remain faithful. And the same remains true for us today. When you are faced with a situation that is out of your control and it seems that everything is spiraling out of control and nothing is going right, take a step back and be still and let God fight the battle for you. It worked time and time again for the people of Israel and it will work time and time again for you.
