Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, lead me in the way everlasting.-Psalm 139:23-24

It may seem that David here in these verses is challenging God to find something that he has done wrong. But that is far from the case. David knows that he is sinner and that he has missed the mark when it comes to obeying God. That is why he wants God to search him and to know his heart. By asking God to do this he is inviting God to point out the things that are still hidden deep inside him so that he can better his walk with God. That is what he meant when he said “see it there is any offensive way in me, lead me in the way everlasting”. David knew that the only way to get rid of anything offensive to God, was to let God into his heart so that God could clean up his heart. And the same thing applies to us today. The only way you will ever be able to have a clean heart is to come to God and to let him clean it. You have to ask God on a daily basis to search you and your heart, so that he can find and point out the things in your life that need to be changed so that your walk with him will improve.
