For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.-2 Corinthians 10:3-5
Paul here is telling the Corinthian church and us that even though we are living in the world, we are not to conduct ourselves as the world does. Why? Because as followers of Christ we have something that the world does not have. We have been redeemed and set apart from the world. So when we go to battle against the powers that control the world, we aren’t to use the weapons that the world uses. For you see the world uses tactics such as: lying, bullying and coercion to fight. Where as those who are followers of Christ are to be using tactics such as: the truth and persuasion to fight. The only way for the strongholds to be demolished is with the truth, that is why Paul says that the weapons that we as followers of Christ fight with have “divine power to demolish strongholds”. But we must be delivering the truth boldly and with love. For you see if you speak the truth in love and you really mean it, the person that you speaking with will know and that tiny seed of truth has been planted inside of them and will hopefully start to grow and began to erode away the walls they have constructed against the truth. And the same is true in the life’s of those of us who are followers of Christ. We many times have built walls around certain areas of our lives or we have certain thoughts or ideas that have been based on lies, and the more we expose ourselves to God’s truth one by one all those things that have built on lies will come crumbling down. But the key to all of this is exposing yourself and others to God’s truth. Because nothing else is able to demolish the strongholds that we have built up in our life’s.
