Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.-Proverbs 12:25
Anxiety, worry, fear and stress are all bad for you physically as we all know, but they are just as bad for you mentally. We are often unaware of the problems that anxiety, worry, fear and stress cause mentally until it is too late. What Solomon is telling us here in this proverb is that even if we are unaware of the mental problems that anxiety, worry, fear and stress are causing in the life’s of those around us there are still things that we can do to help ease that burden. And the most important thing is what Solomon says in the last phrase of this proverb, “but a kind cheers it up”. Remember that your words do have the power of the life and death. People who are suffering through anxiety, worry, fear, and stress need to hear words of encouragement and words that are designed to build up and not tear down. Why? Because they need to know that at least one person is willing to stand with them during what is probably the most difficult time in their life. What then are we, as followers of Christ, to do? The simple answer is that we are to follow Christ’s example. Which is? We are to be ready, willing and able to reach people wherever they are in their life’s. We are to be that kind word that cheers up the heart weighed down with anxiety.
