Verse of the Day 7-23-21

luke.bible/luke-6-35

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.-Luke 6:35-36

Why are we to love our enemies? For the very simple reason that it is the exact opposite of what the world says we are to do. The world says that we are to hate those who are our enemies and to wish to do them evil. In fact even the Old Testament law said “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth”. You see Jesus’ original audience was taught, just as we have been taught, to repay evil with evil and good with good. But the problem with that is that continues a vicious cycle of hate that never ends. Jesus came to set us free from the vicious cycles of evil and hatred that plague our life. And the only way we are ever going to be truly free from those cycles is to learn to love as he loved. Without expecting anything in return and without harboring any hidden or open ill will towards those who seek to us harm. If you want to truly see the world around you change, then learn to love like Jesus and you will be surprised at how the world will change for the better.
