Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.-Psalm 68:19

David tells us two things about God in this particular verse. The first is that God is our savior. And the second is that God will bear our burdens, if we let him. What does David mean when he says God is our savior? Does he mean that God sweeps in rescues us from all the bad things that happen in our life? No, but it does mean that God will deliver you from sin and death. And the very next verse in this same Psalm says exactly that. “Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.” (Psalm 68:20 NIV).

What does David mean when he says God will daily our burdens? Does he mean that we are to go through life listless lazy? Or does it mean that we are to take all problems, cares and worries to God? It is obvious that it is not the first, because we are not to drift through life saying “God will provide” and then doing absolutely nothing. Just as it is obvious that we are to take all our problems, care, and worries to God. But how do we know that is what David meant when he said God will daily bear our burdens? We know, because we have the very words Jesus telling us to give our burdens over to him.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.-Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
