Verse of the Day 8-28-21

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.-1 Corinthians 15:56-58

What exactly is Paul saying here? Paul is telling us that sin, which separates us from God, is what makes death so painful and scary to a lot of people. But Paul then gives us good news, by telling us that God has provided us with a way to have victory over the power of sin and death in our life. And that way is through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. For the wages or the result of our sin is death, not physical death but spiritual death, which is separation from God. But God sent his son Jesus to take on the punishment or burden of your sin, so that you might have victory over the power of sin and death in your life. And the only way to have victory over sin and death in your life is to recognize that you are a sinner, to ask for forgiveness of your sins, and to acknowledge that it is only through Jesus death, burial and resurrection that you can be saved from your sins thus making him the lord of your life.

It is through this victory that God has given us that we are able to stand firm against things that would move others. Why, because we have a hope that those who do not believe in Jesus do not have. And that hope is the knowledge that the war is already won and that even though it seems like the forces of darkness are winning and that forces of light are losing, when in reality they have lost and they know they have lost but they just want to make us lose focus on our mission. That is why it is so important that you keep your focus on what your ultimate mission is in life, and that is to be going about the work of God. Remember the war is already won, so don’t give up and know that your efforts are not in vain.
