Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”-Matthew 9:35-37
If you will notice in this passage Jesus did not wait for the people to come to him, instead he went directly to the people. Jesus ministered to the people directly where they were. And by doing that Jesus saw that they were without someone to guide and direct them. That is why Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Jesus knew that people were missing someone to guide them and direct or in other words minister to them. Not just once a week when they went to their corporate place of worship, but everyday in their homes, in their places of business, in their schools and everywhere else they may be on a daily basis. Wherever you are on a daily basis, as a follower of Jesus, is your harvest field. And what you ought to be doing on a daily basis is asking God how he can use on a daily basis to be a part of the harvest that is out there waiting to be gathered by those who are willing to be workers in the harvest field in which God has put them.
