Verse of the Day 9-11-21

matthew.bible/matthew-5-4

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.-Matthew 5:3-12

The word “blessed”, that starts each of these Beatitudes, implies something different.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” – The word “blessed” there is implying that they are spiritually prosperous, happy, and to be admired.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – The word “blessed” here implies that they are forgiven and refreshed by God’s grace.

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” – The word “blessed” here implies that they are inwardly peaceful, spiritually secure, and worthy of respect.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” – The word “blessed” here implies that they are joyful, and nourished by God’s goodness.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” – The word “blessed” here implies that they are content, and sheltered by God’s promises.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” – The word “blessed” here implies that they are anticipating God’s presence, and they are spiritually mature.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” – The word “blessed” here implies that they are spiritually calm with life-joy in God’s favor.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” – The word “blessed” here implies that they are comforted by inner peace and God’s love.

“Blessed are you when insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.” – The word “blessed” here implies that they are morally courageous and spiritually alive with live-joy in God’s goodness.

So you see the word “blessed” doesn’t just have one meaning, but it has a different meaning depending on your situation in life. So ask God to bless you based on your situation in life and he will. Because remember God does want to bless you, but maybe not in the way you were expecting.
