The Holy Spirit

How does the Holy Spirit help us understand the Bible?

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak on his own, but he will speak whatever he hears. He will also declare to you what is to come. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything the Father has is mine. This is why I told you that he takes from what is mine and will declare it to you. John 16:13-14

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever. He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive him because it doesn’t see him or know him. But you do know him, because he remains with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17

We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people. But the person without the Spirit does not receive what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually. The spiritual person, however, can evaluate everything, and yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. For
who has known the Lord’s mind,
that he may instruct him?
But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:13-16

The Holy Spirit guides us into truth by leading us to meet with Jesus when we open the Bible.

Have you ever wondered why God sent us the Holy Spirit?

God gives us the Holy Spirit to cleanse us of our sins. And, he gives us the Spirit so that we can know Jesus.

One of the main ways that the Holy Spirit helps us to get to know Jesus is through the Bible. When we pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us, and when we open our Bibles and open our hearts, God promises that the Holy Spirit will help us get to know Jesus.

That’s the Holy Spirit’s job. He bears witness to Jesus.

But, the way that the Holy Spirit wants to teach us about Jesus is through the Bible. And that’s the challenge for a lot of Christians. We want to experience the Holy Spirit. We want to know Jesus. But we find it difficult to make time to read the Bible. But if you want to have a strong relationship with Jesus, you have to commit to reading the Bible regularly. The irony is that the more time you spend in God’s Word, the more time you will want to spend as you discover all the wisdom and encouragement it contains.

Spend some time in prayer asking God to give you a desire, a hunger for his word. Ask him to make his word come alive in your life.
