How can I know God?

No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father’s side —he has revealed him. John 1:18

“Lord,” said Philip, “show us the Father, and that’s enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been among you all this time and you do not know me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who lives in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe because of the works themselves.” John 14:8-9

He is the image of the invisible God,
the firstborn over all creation.
For everything was created by him,
in heaven and on earth,
the visible and the invisible,
whether thrones or dominions
or rulers or authorities —
all things have been created through him and for him.
He is before all things,
and by him all things hold together.
He is also the head of the body, the church;
he is the beginning,
the firstborn from the dead,
so that he might come to have
first place in everything.
For God was pleased to have
all his fullness dwell in him,
and through him to reconcile
everything to himself,
whether things on earth or things in heaven,
by making peace
through his blood, shed on the cross. Colossians 1:15-20

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever. He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive him because it doesn’t see him or know him. But you do know him, because he remains with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17

I can know God by the power of the Holy Spirit through his resurrected Son, Jesus.

There are many different religions in the world today. There are many names for their gods, and many beliefs on what following those gods might look like. You only need to listen to the lyrics of the latest hit song, watch a celebrity’s video, or sample a popular podcast to find people offering their opinions on what God is like.

Have you ever wondered how or even if it’s possible to really know God? The one true God of the Bible?

We learn what God is like by getting to know Jesus. And you can establish or deepen your relationship with Jesus by reading about his words and actions in the Bible and by connecting with him in prayer. The Bible is clear—the Holy Spirit will show you what Jesus is like. Jesus invites you into a vibrant and authentic relationship with him and with God. The one who created everything, including you, invites you to spend time with him.

And this relationship with God through Jesus will not only give you wisdom and guidance for how to live your life or guide you into fulfilling your eternal purpose, it will give you unquenchable joy! God gives his Holy Spirit to those who know Jesus so that they can have joy.

After his death and resurrection, Jesus promised his disciples that the Holy Spirit would never leave them. We can trust that his promise is for us, too.

Ask God to fill you with his Spirit today.
