A friend loves at all times, and brother is born for a difficult time. Proverbs 17:17
When Solomon wrote these words of wisdom he was basing them on his father David’s friendship with Jonathan the son of Israel’s first king, Saul. Because David and Jonathan had a unique friendship. And this friendship was unique because Saul, Jonathan’s father was David’s enemy. But this did not stop David and Jonathan from being friends. In fact it was Jonathan who helped David escape from Saul. This all leads us to the point that Solomon was trying to make here. A true friend will stick beside us during hard times. Building such relationships will help us in our spiritual growth. We all need to be able to express our needs and concerns to someone who will care and encourage us in our path toward change.
