Many plans are in a person’s heart, but the LORD’s decree will prevail. Proverbs 19:21
What is Solomon telling us here? Solomon is reminding us that God is in control. He is reminding us that we can make all the plans in the world, but if they don’t fit into God’s plan and purpose for your life then they will come to nothing. And Solomon saw this first hand. His father David was the one who planned to build the first temple in Jerusalem. In fact David was ready to began construction on the temple, but God stopped him from doing what he wanted to do because it was not in God’s plan and purpose for David to be the one who build his temple.
Think back on the things that you have desperately wanted to do, but God has not allowed you to do. At the time it may have seemed like the most devastating thing in your life. Because chances are it was something that you had dreamed about and planned for, for most of your life. But as you look back at it now you can see that God had a different plan for you and that plan has worked out better for you than your original plan. The lesson we need to learn from these words of wisdom from Solomon is that God’s plans are always better than our plans.
