Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path. Psalm 119:105
Psalm 119 is different than all the other Psalms in that in this psalm expresses a deep and intense love for God’s written Word. It deals with and refers to the Word as promise, command, guide, testimony, teaching, wisdom, truth, righteousness, correction and rebuke. The Word is, also, presented as the psalm writer’s comfort, protection, treasure, rule for life, delight to his heart and soul and resource for all his needs. And in today’s passage from this psalm we see the psalm writer describe God’s word in this way “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” With these words the psalm writer is telling us that God’s word contains the spiritual principles that will help us avoid many sorrows, pitfalls and tragedies brought on by wrong decisions and choices. For this reason, we must treasure its wisdom and apply it in all life’s situations. God’s word will never fail to guide us in the right direction.
