Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17
What is Paul telling us here? He is telling us that those who accept God’s forgiveness and by faith yield their lives to Jesus are “born again” and completely renewed from the inside out. Through the creative command of God, they are transformed spiritually. Through a personal relationship with Jesus, we as believers become new persons, renewed in God’s image, with the ability to relate to him and take on his character traits. You become Christians. As new creations, Christians share God’s glory with a renewed knowledge of God and a transformed way of thinking and behaving that begins to reflect God’s holiness, his moral purity, spiritual wholeness, separation from evil and dedication to his purposes. As a new creation belonging to God, we as Christians take on a totally new existence in which God’s Spirit rules. All of this restores us as believers to the purposes for which God originally created us.
Paul in Romans 12:1-2 sums up happens when we become true followers of Christ, when he wrote these words:
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.
