A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Luke 6:45
The heart, representing the center of our being and who we really are inside, determines our outward behavior and must be changed or converted in order to conform to God’s standards and purposes. Without inward change, no one can do God’s will and fulfill his purposes for their life. Contrary to the beliefs and opinions of many in the world, humankind is not basically “good at heart”. The Bible is clear that apart from God the heart is wicked and deceitful. Since the first humans defied God and sin entered the world-affecting all people-our hearts are not to be trusted if they are not under God’s control.
