For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17
This verse and the next provide the major theme of the entire book of Romans: God’s gift of spiritual salvation and a right relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. We should never be ashamed of the gospel-the “good news”-that brings the message of hope and life for all people. The righteous person-one who is “in a right” relationship with God-continues to live by faith, growing from one level of maturity to the next. In this way, the believer progresses along the path of righteousness and approval from God to experience a fulfilling spiritual life.
