One thing I ask from the LORD,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple.
For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock. Psalm 27:4-5
As in Psalm 26, the psalmist longs with all his heart to be in God’s presence, and it is the supreme focus of his prayer. God calls all of us to this same purpose. To “seek his face” is to pursue a deeper personal relationship with God. And those who are always striving to live with a greater awareness of God’s presence come to know that the Lord will never turn away from them. They have no reason for despair; God’s goodness is reserved for them, just as it is reserved for you.
