Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:8-9
Those who know and obey God’s Word will be prosperous and successful because they will possess the wisdom to do what is right and to achieve God’s goal for their lives. The requirements for this kind of success are: (1) to be strong and courageous; (2) to make God’s Word your guiding authority authority for all beliefs and actions; (3) to study and meditate daily on God’s Word; and (4) to recognize and respond to God’s presence in every area of your life. This message to Joshua gives us a set of general principles for successful living. However, this passage does not guarantee wealth or material prosperity to everyone who follows the conditions. Fulfilling God’s goals and plans is the greatest measure of success for each of us, and sometimes that takes us through times of suffering and adversity.
