Lift up your heads, you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The LORD strong and mighty,
the LORD mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is he, this King of glory?
The LORD Almighty —
he is the King of glory. Psalm 24:7-10
These verses are prophetic of the Messiah-for the King of glory is the Lord Jesus. The “generation of those who seek him”-which is the true and faithful followers of Christ-must pray that the “King of glory” will come. This prayer for God’s kingdom to come not only shows a desire for God’s purposes to be accomplished on earth, but it also looks toward the time of Christ’s eternal reign and the final destruction of evil.
