Verse of the Day 4-27-22

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. 1 John 5:13-15

John begins the letter’s conclusion, and he unequivocally states his propose for writing: believers can know they have eternal life. God offers eternal life to all who receive the testimony about his Son, and in the face of false teaching about Jesus, John wants to assure his readers that they can know they possess it.

Believers also have confidence before God. We can come to him and make requests because of our relationship with the Father through the Son. John has referred to our confidence before God previously (1 Jn 2:28; 3:21; 4:17), yet here he connects our confidence to prayer. The Father delights in hearing and answering prayer and Children of God can trust his goodness and his wisdom.
