Verse of the Day 5-13-22

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:25-27

Disciples should not be intensely worried about the basic issues of life. Worry is wrong when it is misdirected, when it is out of proportion, or when it comes from a lack of trust in the Father’s loving provision. Jesus is not telling us that it is wrong to make provisions for our future physical needs. But what he is speaking against is anxiety or worry that shows a lack of faith in God’s care and love. This entire passage is an invitation to rest in the arms of a loving Father. And what we must remember is that we are not perfect, and because we are not perfect there will be times when we cross the line and violate this principle when we allow ourselves to constantly focus on ourselves instead of on God. And that is the solution to worry: Putting your focus on God and not on yourself.
