Verse of the Day 8-5-22

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:37-38

Jesus challenges his followers to always remember that those who are spiritually lost-who do not know and follow God-have a priceless, enteral soul and will spend eternity in heaven or hell. We must reach them with the love and message of Christ while there is still time. Many of them are spiritually ready to receive the message. They can be saved only if someone presents to them the good news of forgiveness and new life through Jesus Christ.

Verse 38 expresses one of God’s most important spiritual principles about our actions and our part in his plans. Our part in the work is necessary because before God takes action, he usually inspires his people to pray. Only after they have prayed does God respond and finish what he desires to happen. What it means is that God has limited himself, choosing to accomplish his plans through the prayers of his faithful people.

It is clear from the context of this passage that the kind of this passage that the kind of workers Jesus desires in his kingdom are those who are willing and spiritually prepared to spread his message and teach others what it means to follow Jesus and live according to his purposes, heal the sick and drive out evil spirits. These acts are possible through relying on God and the power of his Holy Spirit.
