When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94:19
The psalmist is confident that God will make things right. But in the meantime, corruption is the norm. He recalls a time when he needed an advocate, a legal defender, an encourager or perhaps even physical protection. His time was short, his strength was sapped, his defenses were weak, and his resources ran low. But once again, God kept his covenant promise to support and help him. Even though powerful people had perverted the justice system, the psalmist found some temporary peace in knowing that God was still near and on his side. To put this in simple and easy to understand terms here is what the psalmist is declaring: When you are dominated by worry, amp up your confidence in God so that he can relieve the pressure and anxiety you’re experiencing.
