For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matthew 6:14
The Greek term “aphiemi,” which means “forgive,” is found in various forms in the New Testament (over 140 times). It sometimes means “to let go,” “to leave behind,” “to dismiss” and even “to cancel a debt.” It is used for the forgiveness of sins by God, implying also the canceling of guilt. We, therefore, are to forgive others in the same way God forgives us.
