Sowing in Tears but Reaping in Joy: Psalm 126:5-6
Those who sow with tears
will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with them. (NIV)
What exactly does the psalmist mean with all these words about “those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy?” Here is what he means: Heartfelt brokenness and humility-expressed through desperate prayer-will eventually bring a response of spiritual renewal, revival and powerful works by God (Matthew 5:4 and 2 Corinthians 9:6). We as God’s people are assured that what we “plant” through persistent prayer will produce a “harvest” of God’s blessings in the future (Jeremiah 31:9).
